International
• Taliban has declared that Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzada will be the supreme leader of the new Islamic
Emirate of Afghanistan. The new government of the Taliban will also be announced in the next few days.
National
• The Ministry of Road and Highways on 28 Aug notified has introduced a new registration mark for new vehicles –
Bharat Series (BH Series). These BH mark Series vehicles will required a new registration mark when owner
shifts from one state to another.
State
• The Assam Government is to construct 1,000 Model Anganwadi Centres in the State.
• The highest motorable road in the world connecting Leh to the Pangong Lake has been inaugurated in Ladakh.
The road constructed by the Indian Army stretches through the Kela Pass at an altitude of 18,600 feet.
• Ladakh announces snow leopard as state animal
Programme and Scheme
• Central governments’ flagship financial inclusion programme, Pradhan Mantri Jan
Dhan Yojana completes seven years on 28 Aug 2021.
• The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) of Jammu and Kashmir inaugurated the
“Sukoon”, the union territory’s 24X7 counselling helpline number to provide metal
health counselling.
Resign
• Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga informed recently that he does not plan to run
again in the election that will be held by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party in
September 2021. The party will have choose a new Prime Ministerial candidate. Suga
had surpassed Japan's longest-serving prime minister Shinzo Abe, who had resigned in
September 2020 citing ill health.
Demise
• Former Hurriyat Leader of J& K Syed Ali Shah Geelani passed away at the age of 92.
• Big Boss 13 winner and popular TV star, Siddhartha Shukla passed away due to a
heart attack at the age of 40.

• Five winners of the 63rd Ramon Magsaysay Awards 2021. The Ramon Magsaysay Award is an annual award and
is also known as Asia’s Nobel Prize. The prestigious award will be conferred to five individuals who have made
selfless and extraordinary contributions to society.

Ramon Magsaysay Award was established in 1957 as an annual award in memory of the third president of the
Philippines, Ramon Magsaysay. The award is conferred every year to honour individuals and organizations in
Asia who transform lives and societies by manifesting selfless service.
