Family Literacy
Ready Children / Families (Year 1 Network Priority)
o Empower parents through use of evidenced-based family literacy programming
o Determine scope of parent/caregiver education programs and ensure that parents have opportunities to receive quality parenting skills
 Identify programs the engage families in coaching or mentoring and determine need
for additional services in the county
 Provide educational opportunities and resources to parents and caregivers
 Develop ways to help the most at-risk families to take advantage of programs
available
o Increase parenting program offerings through many venues including hospitals and
schools
o Evaluate best practices and implement family literacy programs in the county
 Daily reading
 Singing & movement
 Library programs
Comprehensive Family Literacy (Year 1 Network Priority)
o Increase interactive literacy activities between parents/adults and their children using evidence-based family literacy programming
o Develop adult mentoring programs with outcome of increased economic self-sufficiency for family unit
o Increase access to technology for homes
o Increase awareness and access to basic needs resources to reduce learner’s barriers to
participation
o Promote utilization of community centers as venues for safe, local and affordable family
activities
o Promote the increased utilization of libraries and culturally diverse community event for
families
o Develop and support family centered technology activities
o Design, implement and support family centered health literacy activities o Develop and support family centered financial literacy activities
