Planning: Eden Meadow
Esquire Developments have revised and re-submitted their proposal for houses to extend Eden Mead-
ow. The original application (opposite the Persimmon Watling Place site) was for 40 homes; this was
made in March 2020 following the public meeting in January when Esquire Developments made no
secret of their ambition to expand this to a total of up to 400 homes in the future.
The revised application is slightly smaller:
Erection of 35 residential dwellings including affordable housing and associated car parking,
hardstanding, landscaping and open spaces, infrastructure including SuDs and earthworks
accessed from the existing junction serving Eden Meadow from the A2 High Street.
The Parish Council always comments on planning applications in our village. We felt the original appli-
cation would have a serious effect on the poor air quality in our village, would mean the loss of best and
most versatile farmland, and would mean the loss of views from the footpaths south of the A2. We will
be discussing the new application soon, but it is unlikely that our views will have changed.
You can see the full application and responses so far on the midkent planning portal
https://pa.midkent.gov.uk/online-applications/search.do?action=simple&searchType=Application
then insert reference 20/501475/FULL
The Parish Council objections to the original proposal are also on our website
https://www.newington-pc.gov.uk/community/newington-parish-council-15445/home
(remember you can sign-up for notification of all news.)
We’re trying to encourage residents to spread the word and also to send their responses via the midkent
planning portal. You may find some of our comments helpful if you wish to send your own comments.
