Additional Uses
Being comfortable on a boat is as much about having the right tools
as it is about having the right skills. In a couple hours, a skilled
boatman can create a sturdy rope ladder (page 82) useful in pulling
in a lost sailor or swimmer or climbing skyward to perform
necessary repairs. He can thread together a knife lanyard to ensure
that he always has a rigging knife available (page 86). And that
same boatman will use similar knot skills to tie off to a cleat or bitt
(page 90).
