reversing the lead as in the square knot. The 20 half-knots form a spiral
section of lanyard, as shown at left. Follow the half-knots with 10 square
knots, then 20 more half-knots, then a final section of 10 square knots.
5. Next, make the section that will form the knife loop. At this point, all
four cords become knotting cords. Tie them into a series of four-strand
crown knots. This knot is made like the three-strand crown knot (pages
42–43), with each strand passing through a bight of the next strand
(above). The resulting chain of knots, designed to resist wear, is known
as a four-strand crown sennit.
