Seizing for a Thimble

A chafeproof metal fitting called a thimble, seized into a rope end, forms a
useful terminal. First make an eye in some twine by tucking the end
through a few of its own strands. Then make a noose around the two

rope parts by passing the end of the twine through its eye (1). Working
toward the thimble, make 12 turns (2), and tuck the end under the last
turn. Add a second layer of 11 so-called riding turns, working back toward
the eye in the twine. Pass the end through the eye, slip it between the
rope parts (3) and make a few crossing turns around the riding turns.
Finish with a half hitch (4).
