4. As you work the knot, arrange each turn symmetrically around the
standing part. Be careful to tighten each strand a little bit at a time,
moving methodically on to the next strand, so as not to pull the knot
askew.
5. Lay up the three strands for a distance of ½ inch or more, as desired,
from the knot and whip them together. Cut off the ends about ¼ inch up
from the whipping.
