Tying to Lines and Rings
Every sailor should know how to secure lines firmly to other lines—
and to permanent eyes and ring fittings. The bends and hitches
shown here are particularly suited to these purposes. Each is
quickly tied, notably strong, and reliable even under the heaviest
strain. And with the exception of the fisherman’s bend, each is easy
to untie, even when a wet line that has been under strain is being
worked with. However, because the fisherman’s bend is primarily
used for tying a rope to an anchor ring, security of the knot takes
priority over ease of undoing.
