The fisherman’s bend, also known as the anchor bend, is the most widely
used means of tying a line onto a metal ring—often, as the alternate
name implies, to an anchor ring. To tie the bend, take a round turn (1 and
2) around the ring. Pass the end through both parts of the turn (3)—in
effect, putting in a half hitch—and pull tight. Secure the end with another
half hitch (4).
