2. Expressing Relationships
The relationship between two sets can be expressed in three ways,
namely using an arrow diagram of a set of ordered pairs, and a Cartesian
diagram.
a) Arrow Diagram
Look at the picture below
The relationship between set A and set B is expressed by the
direction of the arrow. Therefore, the diagram is called an arrow
diagram.
b) Set of ordered pairs
The “color -loving” relationship in the picture above can also
be expressed by a set of sequential pairs. The members of set A
= {Eva, Roni, Tia, Dani} are paired with the members of set B
= {red, black, blue} as follows:
The statement "Eva loves the color red" is written (Eva, red).
The statement "Roni likes black" is written (Roni, black).
