      Confined Space Training - Awareness for Managers


















        DESCRIPTION

        This course is for persons who will not be required to enter the confined space but who are in a management position and responsible
        for committing others to supervise or work inside the confined space. This course is also aimed at a persons responsible for
        the development of risk assessments, safe systems of work and rescue plans rather than a “local” supervisor.
        Delegates are required to appraise site conditions and generate a document pack which can be used by a live entry team at some future point, all document
        packs are assessed and certification is only issued to successful participants. Only on successful completion of the entire course and subject to the assessment
        criteria. Certification will be issued and valid for 3 years. Reasonable level of health & fitness and aptitude is required. Minimum age for course is 18.



        DURATION
        3 days (this course can only be taken if the candidate has already attained the High Risk Confined Space Entry qualification)

        SYLLABUS                                   LEARNING OUTCOMES
        The subjects covered on this course are;   • An understanding of legislative, personal and medical requirements
        •  Legislation recognition & classification     for confined space entry
        •  Confined space risk assessment          • Characteristics of confined spaces - what is a confined space
        •  Development of safe systems of work        definition and classification
        •  Development of emergency                • Knowledge of types of personal protective equipment
          arrangements & rescue planning           • Understanding gas monitoring and awareness of atmospheric hazards
        •  Lockout of hazardous energy             • Understanding of the types and characteristics of escape sets
        •  Issuing permit to work and associated    • Understand the major hazards and hazardous atmospheres in relation to confined spaces
          controlling documents                    • Understand the importance of risk assessment and its practical application
        •  Confined space roles and responsibilities  • Be able to discuss safe systems of work and permits to work
        •  Gas detection (overview)                • Discuss the importance of emergency planning
        •  Escape breathing apparatus (overview)   • Be able to define individual’s roles and responsibilities, especially the overseer (topman) role
        •  Harness, tripod, davit, winch, block (overview)
        •  Ventilation (overview)
        •  Communication (overview)
        •  Management of a practical entry (assessed)
