As a newly elected City council
member, Brenda Horwitz Prawer
was elated to accept an invitation
to join the WePower’s College
for Elected Women Council
Members, “I have recently
been voted into office as a
city council member. To really
achieve my goals as an effective
representative of my community
requires learning new skills and
perspectives. This yearly program
created a safe space for me to
learn, deal with dilemmas and
understand laws that pertained
to my new job. This program also
created an amazing opportunity to
network and share learning with
other women who are in politics.
As a result, I am moving forward
with a feeling of confidence and
backing from some great women”
Brenda has 37 years of Education
experience. She started her
career as a first-grade teacher
and then moved to educational
management with over 16 years
of experience as an Elementary
principal and high school principal
for an all-girls high school (7th
– 12th grade). Her expertise is in
transforming failing schools and
moving them to
excellence at the national level.
She lectures on how to create
opportunities from conflicts in
educational organizations.
Her focus at the municipal level is
on suicide prevention programs,
adult mental health and working
with the city comptroller. Brenda
is also active as a volunteer on
a number of public domains -
She is an active member of
an interfaith dialogue project
directed by the international NGO
Searching for Common Ground
between Muslim and Jewish
religious leaders, and volunteers
as a medical first responder with
Yichud Hatzalah.
Brenda is married and a mother
of 3 boys and a grandmother.
