Kimball House Oyster Farm

One Shell Of A Place By Heidi Smith

When someone mentions the word farming, what comes to your mind?
Fields? Crops? Dirt? Well, how about oysters? Yes, oysters! Oyster farming
has been around for thousands of years. Some farm seasonally while others
                     farm year-round!
Now, what if I told you that there are oyster farmers right here in Georgia?
Would you believe me? And let’s go even deeper… What if I told you that not
only are there oyster farmers in Georgia but, one of them is an African
American. Yes, that’s right! Right here on the coast of Georgia, Earnest
McIntosh and his son own E.L. McIntosh & Son Seafood.

Located an hour from Savannah in Harris Neck the father son duo make it
happen! His oysters have been featured on Netflix 2019 episodes of Chef’s
Table. They were also featured in an article in the Savannah Magazine
                     December 2018/January 2019 edition.

If you are looking to sit down and have some oysters for lunch or dinner and
you’re in the Savannah area, try The Grey restaurant. If you’re in the Atlanta
area, Kimball in Decatur is a good choice!

The Gray offers a 4 and 6 course dinner meal for a mere $65/$85 per person
respectively. If brunch is your thing, then be sure to try the fried chicken and
hoe cakes, smoked fish, and quiche for $14 to $18. And of course, a raw
                     oyster bar is available!

Kimball House also has a mouth-watering menu, that include, grilled oysters
made with jalapeno butter, spinach and breadcrumbs, trout, snapper, wild
boar, prime petite filet mignon, and prime rib, ranging in price from $25 to
                     $120.

So, the next time you sit down for an oyster on the half shell, just make sure
you remember Mr. McIntosh and his son for truly being that 1 in 10,000 pearl
                     of a farmer!
