What did a typical day look like in the military?
I joined the military at 16 years old (with my mom’s permission),
building weapon systems for naval and marine corps aircraft.
Most days started with physical training and followed with
formation at the Squadron. After that, I’d go to work on a
flightline on the order of the day, which could be for missiles,
rockets, and air-to-ground firing systems, among others. I was
also a quality assurance/safety NCO, ensuring that all safety
procedures were followed while fulfilling orders.
What inspired you to serve?
I’ve always had a love for our country, ever since my family came
to Hartford, CT from St. Thomas. I had a wrestling coach in high
school who was a Marine and he inspired me to join.
What learnings did you take away that you still use to this day?
My military service allowed me to work with Americans from
many different cultures. No matter our skin tone, we were all
considered green. Had I stayed in Hartford, I wouldn’t have been TERRANCE ANDREWS
exposed to things like country music, mudding, real Tex-Mex food, Client Services Analyst
or elephant riding in Pattaya Beach, Thailand. It really opened my Military Role: 6541 Aviation Ordnance
