Shlomo Hamelech said that he sat on the “throne of Israel.” Why didn’t
he say he was sitting on the “throne of royalty”?
The “throne of royalty” belongs only to Hashem. Shlomo Hamelech
wished to impart the lesson that there is only one King in this world, and
nothing exists aside from Him. The phrase “throne of Israel” hints to
mutual responsibility among Am Yisrael. Shlomo Hamelech felt no
superiority when he was appointed king of the nation. He knew that his
kingdom was not granted to him unconditionally but depended on his
behavior.
