Unity Sand Ceremony (Can be customized to also include any of the “blends” described below)
(Officiant, to couple): Before you met, your lives
were on different paths with different
destinations. Love has brought you together and
joined your separate paths into one. Two bottles
of sand symbolize your separate lives and
families, and all that you are as an individual. As
these two containers of sand are poured into the
central vase, the individual sand will no longer
exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as
these grains of sand can never be separated, so

(All take turns pouring their separate containers of sand into the one central vase)
Family Blend (If you would like to include family members in the sand ceremony)
(Officiant, to all) This bond between <Bride and Groom> also unites two families in a new relationship, creating
new bonds of trust and meaning as family. The family sands are a symbol of family’s first influence in our lives.
Friends Blend (If you would like to include friends in the sand ceremony)
(Officiant, to all) It has been said that friends are the family we choose. The influence of your friendship and
loving support has helped to shape this couple’s lives. A different-colored sand will be added to the vase by
friends of the Bride and Groom (Friend reps proceed to Sand Table to add their sand)
A couple of Great Ideas to consider:
• If there are children in this new blended family, you might want to have a different color sand to represent
each child – or the children can share one color sand and take turns
adding their sand to the vase.
• If you are having a religious wedding, adding a base of white sand to
the bottom of the Unity Sand Sculpture symbolizes God as the
foundation of your marriage and family. Your Wedding Officiant is
the perfect person to add this layer signifying God in your marriage.
• Here’s an interesting alternative to sand: Consider using Rough-
cut Colored Glass instead of Sand. It also makes a very beautiful
Unity Sculpture. You can find more information on the internet for
companies that take the blended sand and create glass bowls, vases
and sculptures from the combined cut glass.
