I look back

on all the times you excluded me,
because I was “too young”

you were talking about stuff I didn’t
understand

that’s why I was left out
just me.

I was too young for you to share some

thoughts
back then I wished I could listen

listen to your stories of boys
or that’s at least what I thought at the time

I recently found out it wasn’t

now I wish I never knew
I wish I still had the innocence of then

when I was young and free and thought about

Barbies
or making friendship bracelets
or watching movies

I wish I still had the innocence of then

I wish I didn’t get the references
or innuendos

I wish I were still innocent
and young

and free.
