NOTICE
NOTIS LARANGAN
PROHIBITION OF UNAUTHORIZED COLLECTING
OF ZAKAT IN FEDERAL TERRITORY OF
KUALA LUMPUR, PUTRAJAYA AND LABUAN
The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council, with the
consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, authorizes and
appoints the Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) as
an Amil to collect zakat as provided under rule 10 of the
Islamic Law Administration Rules (Fitrah Dan Zakat) 1952,
with amendments by the Federal Territory (Modification of
Islamic Law Administration Enactment) 1974. The Federal
Territory Islamic Religious Council manages the zakat
distribution through the Baitulmal Department.
SYARIAH CRIMINAL OFFENCES
(FEDERAL TERRITORIES) ACT 1997 [ACT 559]
SECTION 33
Any person who collects zakat or fitrah without being
appointed as an amil or authorized by the Council shall be
guilty of an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a
fine not exceeding three thousand ringgit or imprisonment
not exceeding two (2) years or both.
SECTION 34
Any person who pays zakat or fitrah to anyone not legally
authorized to collect zakat or fitrah, shall be guilty of an
offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not
exceeding one thousand ringgit or imprisonment not
exceeding six (6) months or both.
The public, especially in the Federal Territory of Kuala
Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, is advised to be careful
with individuals, companies, organizations, or groups
claiming to be legitimate zakat collection agents where they
are actively collecting zakat without permission and
legal appointments issued by MAIWP.
MAIWP will not hesitate to take action on any individuals,
companies, organizations, or groups found to have
committed such offences to safeguard the image and
reputation of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council
as the body responsible for managing Islamic religious
affairs in the Federal Territory of Kuala
Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
