Overview









                 Diversity refers to differences in underlying attributes or non-observable

                     differences


                 To manage diversity successfully, promotion & compensation should be

                     determined by job performance, initiative, or special skills



                 Examples of attempts to manage diversity:


                        NY City Police Department:  Has a diverse workforce

                        National Park Service: Internship to attract new rangers and diversify the

                            workforce


                        Colorado State Patrol:  Includes sexual orientation in diversity training program

                        Cuyahoga County, Ohio:  Health care benefits to the children of gay couples



                 Executive Order 13583 – Requires that federal agencies submit their
                     agency-specific Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plans to the US Office of

                     Personal Management
