Phase I:
Sort
1. Sort: The first step in 5S is to sort through everything in the
workspace and remove anything that is unnecessary. This can
include tools, equipment, and materials that are no longer needed
or are in the wrong place.
2. Straighten: After sorting, the next step is to arrange everything
that remains in a logical and efficient way. This involves creating a Phase V: Phase II:
place for everything and ensuring that everything is in its place. Sustain Straighten
3. Shine: Once everything is sorted and arranged, the workspace 5S
should be thoroughly cleaned and maintained on a regular basis to
ensure that it remains organized and free of clutter.
4. Standardize: The next step is to create standard operating
procedures and guidelines for maintaining the organized
workspace. This helps ensure that everyone who works in the area
follows the same process and maintains the same level of
organization.
5. Sustain: The final step is to develop a culture of continuous Phase IV: Phase III:
improvement by regularly reviewing and refining the 5S process to Standardize Shine
ensure that it continues to meet the needs of the organization and
its employees.
