HUNGER
PDGs Ease Hunger in Brooklyn
PDGs Jacqueline Williams, Audrey Doorn, Melissa
Torres, Clarence R. A. Higgins and PCC Gloria
Askew teamed with the East Brooklyn Mutual Aid
Organization to assist and advocate for the
underserved residents in the East New York
neighborhoods.
The East Brooklyn Mutual Aid Organization
provides food to approximately 80,000 residents.
They pack and deliver free groceries to
households in Ocean Hill- Brownville, East New Photo-op with Lion Nicolette Doorn, PDGs Jackie Williams, Audrey Doorn,
York, Starrett City/Spring Creek and Cypress Hills. Melissa Torres and Mr. Kelvin Taitt with bags of food in background.
The organization was established in 2020 by Mr.
Kelvin Taitt during the height of the “pandemic”
when the availability of healthy, affordable food
options in marginalized communities was
exposed to public attention.
This pride of PDGs actuated opportunities for
“hands-on” personalized “face to face”
connections, as they delivered groceries to each
of the 45 identified families.
“We are grateful to Mr. Kelvin Taitt and Lion
Nicolette Doorn for this invaluable opportunity to
partner with their organization, serve others and
help to alleviate hunger. We were stirred by the PDGs Audrey and Clarence deliver food bags to resident
individualized and collective responses of
appreciation. The ‘take-away” motivated and
challenged us to heighten our efforts to provide
respite service to communities in need. We
pledge to sustain and expand this partnership.”
