GLOBAL CAUSES AROUND THE DISTRICT
                                                         VISION

Cynthia says, “Junior (Lancelot) was wondering if we would even come this year, but nonetheless,

I am glad that we did,” alluding to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “It’s been such a crazy year for every-

one, but the important thing is safety. I was confident that VCB would create a safe space for my grandchil-

dren— Nneka needed to get out, her brother as well, and even grandma needed a break!”

While Nneka learns and experiences new things, the program provides interaction for not only

Nneka, but for each member of the Washington family (which grandma is very adamant about). Grandma

learns more about her granddaughter’s disability, and offers her support in peer groups, but also gets to

relax and let the staff attend to the needs of her granddaughter. And even Lancelot takes part, as he fol-

lows the lead of many program assistants while (carefully) flying through campus on his skateboard. He

one day hopes to be able to work at VCB.

For the Washington family, VCB is about tradition and making memories that they will always re-

member. “It’s nice to see both of my grandbabies having fun!” Cynthia states.

               It’s nice for us too!
