ATHA’s Extreme Youth Camp DURING the week of July 27 and July 31 ATHA
was extremely successful
organized an Extreme Youth Camp, which also hap-
ARUBA TRAVELLER - Saturday, August 8 2015 pens to be the first time ATHA organized an entire
week packed with extreme sports activities. The camp
was mainly for teens between the ages of 12 and 17.
The reason for introducing this camp is because it
is difficult to motivate teens between these ages to
keep themselves occupied with educational and rec-
reational activities during the summer vacation.
The camps’ goal is to get these teens to spend time to-
gether and complete challenges together and individu-
ally which will stimulate them to challenge themselves
and motivate young ones to lead a more healthy life.
This extreme camp was organized by 19 teachers
from the Leider Sportieve Recreatie, L.S.R. (Leader
in Sportive Recreation) program along with different
coaches known for their knowledge in the Extreme
Sports field.
Each day had different activities, and the teachers
were divided into groups and each group was assigned
to a day.
On Monday the kids were taken on a hike starting from
the Tele Aruba Offices going to Frenchman’s pass and
then returning to Tele Aruba.
During the hike the kids encountered numerous chal-
lenges which they had to overcome together.
Tuesday the kids had to make floats under guidance
of their coaches at the Mangel Halto beach.
Wednesday they learned rappelling at the French-
man’s pass.
Thursday they were at Colony where they explored
two different areas, which is a cave and the phosphate
mine, here they learned about the history of these two
wonderful places under guidance of their coaches and
the Park Rangers who know a lot about these areas.
Their day began near Marina Pirata on Friday, where
the kids were divided into two group’s one group went
mountain biking while the other went kayaking.
The day concluded at the Aruba Nautical Club where
the kids ate and were handed the participation cer-
tificate.
Besides extreme sports there were numerous other
activities that the L.S.R. teachers organized to en-
tertain the kids and make sure they enjoy a delicious
breakfast and lunch.
L.S.R. wants to thank all the 47 kids that took part in
the Extreme Youth Camp and parents for trusting the
coaches with their children.
L.S.R. sends special thanks to ATHA for giving them
the opportunity of going through with the Extreme
Youth Camp.
L.S.R. also thanks all the well qualified coaches for all
their patience and knowledge which helped success-
fully get kids through this extreme camp.
