Beach Proposal Shot Mom and Baby
Last week a Swedish mom
asked me how she can take
better beach shots of her
baby and I gave her two
advices. First the shoot must
be done very early in the
morning. The reason is the
sun, the morning’s sunlight
is white and you will have
an even balanced light for a
very good exposure without
shadow. Babies close their
eyes as soon as too much
light is present. My second
advice, no need to look at
the camera, but cuddle with
the baby. This gives a sweet
and a strong emotional rela-
tionship between mom and
baby. At the end I did a fam-
ily photo shoot for them.
I’m blessed to witness very precious and decisive moments
and this is one of them. When Matt (NYPD) asked me to shoot
his proposal and explained that he is looking for something
special, that’s where creativity kicks in. Btw, Taylor said ‘yes’
and they will be getting married in 2018. These are moments
I love as a photographer, to be part of such important life
events. Aruba is known for its white beaches, the blue sea
and the sun, so my advice is to have those elements incor-
porated in your proposal photos and sure she or he will say Oranjestad (Main street)
YES!!
Fisherman’s huts at Pos Chikito
I would like to advise you
to visit the main street in
Oranjestad (downtown).
The tram (trolley) will take
you through the main street
and you can get out any
moment, also it’s free. This
picture was taken by night,
I love night photos and love
this shot. But for you: Make
sure you go during daytime
because almost all busi-
nesses in the main street
close at 6 pm.
80 years ago, fish was almost free but nowadays it’s not free
anymore and there are just a few fishermen left that still make
a living by fishing. One of the few places to buy fresh fish is
this neighborhood located at Pos Chikito. Very unique and
colorful and here you can talk to real local fishermen. What I
most love about this place are the colorful boats and wood-
en houses. The traditional local cuisine for New Year’s Eve is
salt fish with funchi (made from corn meal, water, little bit of
salt, oil, boiled all together and stirred) and sweet plantains.
This tradition is still present today in some Aruban homes and
I love it!!
