Aruban Jair Tromp Becomes the New
Chief of the Curacao Fire Department
WITHIN the framework of the “critical functions
2022” vacancies that the Ministry of Justice possesses,
recently, Minister of Justice Shalten Hato proposed
during the Council of Ministers a new commander to
lead and guide the fire department, which began on
October 16, 2023.
Mr. Jair Tromp has been appointed as an official in the
position of commander for the Curacao Fire Department
following a successful application process in which he
excelled. Mr. Tromp previously served as the General
Commander of the fire departments in the BES islands.
Originally from his birthplace, Aruba, where he also
worked extensively, Mr. Tromp possesses a broad knowl-
edge of firefighting and will undoubtedly be a valu-
able addition to the development of the Curacao Fire
Department.
As the new commander, Mr. Tromp will be respon-
sible, among other duties, for the implementation of
the so-called “Fire Department Strengthening Plan”
(Verstevigingsplan Brandweer).
This plan will address the following areas of focus:
1. Organization and function,
2. Legal position arrangements,
3. Professional training system,
4. Legislation and regulations,
5. Internal and external communication plan.
On his first day at the Curacao Fire Department,
Commander Tromp conducted a tour to become
acquainted with the fire department’s facilities and met
both the office staff and the firefighting personnel.
In addition, the Director of the Ministry of Justice, Mr.
Gerold Daantje, officially presented, on behalf of Minister
Shalten Hato, the office keys, vehicle, uniform, and other
essential items for the commander’s duties.
Finally, the opportunity was seized to take a photograph
with the new management team of the Curacao Fire
Department.
In the coming days, Commander Tromp will meet the
rest of the firefighting personnel, and during the weeks
ahead, he will visit the fire department facilities at Hato
Airport and Isla Refinery.
