Presenting The Speech (1) 3a

In this unit, you will be able to analyze types of audience and build
                                                                                  your confidence.

                  1. Audience-centeredness

Work in a group of four. Watch the video. Then, discuss what types
of audience shown in the video. If you were the speaker, how would you deal with
                  them? Share your ideas.

“For the three elements in speech- making, speaker, subject, and person addressed─ it is
the last one, the hearer, that determines the speech’s end and object.” -Aristotle-

The quote above shows that the hearer or the addressee is the most important
factor in determining the speech’s goal. Therefore, knowing and analyzing the audiences
are important considerations to take into account by the speaker in a public speaking.
There are five types of audience. Considering these types will help us to decide our
                  approach towards the audience.

                        a. Neutral Audience
These will be the kind of people who are directly
or indirectly interested or do not want to invest in our
idea. We need to be extremely careful not to offend
these audiences and still get them to invest in our idea
                        or philosophy.
