Strategies of writing speech draft
How to write a speech draft
Nursing needs more articulate spokespeople to address the media, the public, and other healthcare
professionals. It’s a great way to showcase our knowledge and expertise and give a voice to who we are
and what we do. Speaking is a form of teaching, and nurses are natural teachers. We teach and explain
all the time in our nursing practice. This article explores some strategies to be applied and demonstrated
that might improve and develop nurses to be great presenters.
Pick A topic for your presentation
Before writing an outline, you have to know what you’re going to be speaking about.
Consider your audience in some situations you might encounter as a nurse, such as conferences, poster
presentations, job interviews, case reports, and ward-based teaching. Your topic and message should
of course be highly relevant to them. If you don’t know your audience well enough to choose a topic,
that’s a problem.
