B. The following text is the summary of the story in jumbled version. Put the events in
chronological order by numbering them.
After the branches were placed under the wheels, Joe tried to move the truck with Pedro and
Manuel pushing the back of the truck. They needed few trials to move the truck out of the
mud. The moment the truck moved, a large branch flew up under the wheel and hit Leon’s
arm. Manuel shouted to tell Joe about the situation. Joe helped Leon by tying his broken arm.
Suddenly, trouble came when the two men were in the middle of the river. Leon shouted to
Joe about a big branch approaching their boat. But, it was too late. The branch hit the boat.
Joe tried very hard to hold onto the rope, but the boat slip under his feet. Leon ordered him
to cross the river by the rope and let him drift away on the boat. Joe did not listen to him. He
let go of the rope and swam towards the boat. Reaching the boat, Joe held it and tried to get
the boat away from the branch. After it was free, Leon told Joe to save himself and let him
alone with the boat. But, Joe did not listen.
Not long after that, they heard the sound of truck approaching. Joe got out of the truck when
it stopped near the tents. Leon was angrier seeing the smiling Joe. Then, they quarrelled
about Joe’s two days leaving for hunting in the forest. Leon ordered the men to pack and
leave in a hurry, since it was going to rain, and he was afraid that the mud would stop them.
At midday, the rain still fell heavily, so Joe drove carefully not to stop the truck in muddy
road. Then, they reached the last and the biggest river that lined between the men and their
base. Unfortunately, the only bridge that crossed the river was broken. Joe stopped at the
edge of the bridge. All the men stood on the bank of the river in silent not knowing what to
do with the broken bridge and the rushing water.
From his place, Pedro saw Joe and Leon on the rock and could see the disaster that might
come. Then, he climbed up the hill to make a call. He settled down the radio on the rock at
the top of the hill. After several trials, he reached the base. He asked for the help and he was
told that the help would come soon. Then, he walked down to the broken bridge where
Manuel was waiting on the other side of the river. Both could see that the rock looked very
small and Joe was holding Leon in his arms. Leon’s arm was covered with blood, his eyes
were closed and he did not move.
Deep in the forest, there were four men working together. They were Leon, Manuel, Joe and
Pedro. They were looking for metals and irons. They had been in the forest for few days. They
camped in the clear area of the forest. That morning, they had to come back to their base,
but two of them were out in the forest. Joe and Pedro drove into the forest with the truck,
their only transportation. Therefore, Leon and Manuel had to wait for them. Leon was a bit
angry since it was going to rain and they would have been out of the schedule if they had not
gotten out the forest before the rain fell. To tame down Leon’s anger, they drank coffee.
After settling everything up, they started to cross the river. Joe and Pedro went first. Pedro
brought the radio to call the base and Joe would pull back the rubber boat to the other side
after tying up rope across the river. Back to the other side of the river where Leon and
Manuel, Joe asked Leon to go with him. First, Leon refused. He wanted Manuel to go before
him, but they convinced him to go.
After everything was settled in the truck, they drove away. Joe was the driver. The driving
was smooth until they found a stream. It confused them since there was no stream when
they first passed the road. Joe crossed it safely then drove as faster as possible. The rain fell
heavily soon after. It made the road muddy and slippery. Leon ordered Joe to drive carefully
