B. Cause & Effect. Below are what people experienced when they were having their vacation. Read
what they shared and understand the cause and effect relation indicated by signal words printed
bold.
CAUSE & EFFECT
One common reading structure that help to understand what you read is cause and effect.
A cause is “the reason why something happens," and an effect is “what happens because
of the cause."
The most basic way to understand cause and effect structure in a text is to identify the
proper signal words; because, so, for, since, as a result of, causes, lead to,
etc.
Example:
“Spain is always famous for its sunny, narrow, cobbled streets, and lovely old buildings.”
From the sentence, we notice the signal word ‘for’; meaning that it indicates cause and
effect relation.
Let’s break them down:

call led to a complete change of itinerary.
"What happened?" - I asked. "My father ... he ..." - Kevin hesitated. - "He is dead." This
sentence caused him tears. I could not believe my ears: "But ... how?" - I managed to whisper.
"You can stay here, enjoy your dream trip. I'm going back, "- he said. Never would I have left: "I'm
