                                     Hi,
My first choice is always Lauterbrunnen because you are right at the transportation
options for going up to either the Murren/Schilthorn side, or

Marb E the Wengen/Eiger side. Lauterbrunnen does have less room availability. Wengen
has more volume. If you are sole focusing only on the Eiger walk...then Wengen
                        Easton,
Pennsylvania will be a better base. There is nothing wrong with staying in Grindelwald, but it is
more difficult to get to the Murren/Schilthorn side. Plus, I find Grindelwald not
particularly picturesque as I find both Murren and Wengen. Both cities have many
                                     beautiful old buildings.
If the weather is nice, I will stay in the mountains and not visit Thun. Until I am
finished with the region. Thun is easily reached from Interlaken. Why waste time,
going back and forth when you can do it at the end? Also you will save money-even
                                     with half fare pass!
                                     Have a great hike!

No matter where you stay you will have to accept a compromise--you will always
be closer to some trails and further from others. Lauterbrunnen has a convenient
transportation hub to connect with hiking in the area and other areas, and to make

Kevin H a connection for arrival and departure almost 24 hours a day.
Toronto Incidentally, we stayed in a guest apartment that was part of a private home on the
"other" (east) side of the river. There's a footbridge behind the train station that
takes you across to the quiet neighbourhood on the other side, away from the
bustle of "downtown" Lauterbrunnen but still quite close to the amenities and
                                     transportation.
