A Road Trip in Europe
By
AngelaE-Olano
There are many different ways to travel from England across Europe: by plane, by train and by
boat. However, one of the least options is to travel to Europe by car. To get to my destination, Vibo
Valentia, on the south coast of Italy by plane will take 4 hours. By train, it will probably take a day and
a half. However, I choose to drive all the way from South East England to South West Italy.
5 Why do I choose this?
For practical reasons: When
moving to Europe, by train or plane,
you can only take fewer suitcases with
you. Whereas my Ford Focus allows me
to take more loads with me.
Why else?
For the adventure, of course!
From my hometown of Bracknell, I will
travel through England, France,
15 Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and
Switzerland. I can hear French, German,
Flemish and Italian and get a chance to use 3 different currencies as well! (Pounds, Euros and Swiss
francs). Geographically, it is fascinating to see Europe unfold before you. On just one day, you can drive
100 miles an hour on the Autobahn across the beautiful farmlands of Germany through the spectacular
Alps, with their majestic snow-capped mountains.
On top of this, a Euro road trip allows you to visit places and sample things that you usually
will not. For example because I will not be confined by a flight I have to catch, I can stay in places for
as long as I want. I am planning to stop in Bruges for 2 hours but I can book a hotel and stay till the
next morning, if I find Burges fascinating. In Luxembourg, I can have more time to taste all the
25 chocolate drinks they offer, if I want to. In Switzerland, I can explore Lake Lucerne, one of the most
beautiful lakes I ever know, as long as I want.
Is it worth it?
Definitely! Find a loved one who’s willing to do it with you and it will, genuinely, be one of the
most exciting and exhilarating things you ever do!
