Language Focus
In a business report, there are some recommendations that should be made by the writer. Here are some
of the expressions we can use to write recommendations in the business report.
Here are the structures of the business report
Title page
It should clearly set what the report is about. You have to include your name and the date of the report
Summary/ background
It consists of a summary of its key points
Try to include
• Brief description of what the report is about
• How the report was completed (e.g data collection methods)
• The main finding from the research
• Key conclusions and recommendation
Introduction
Use it to set out the brief you received when you were asked to compile the report. This will frame the
rest of the report properly by providing
• Background information
• Purpose of the report
• Its scope
Methods and findings
If you are conducting original research, including a section about your methods. This may be as simple
as setting out the sources you are using and why you chose them. But it could also include how you
have collected and analyzed the data used to draw your conclusions
Conclusions and Recommendations
The last main section of your report will cover conclusions and recommendations. The conclusion
section should summarize what you have learned from the report. If you have been asked to do so, you
should also recommend potential courses of action based on your conclusions.
