Mr. Eko : "That sounds good, thank you."
Ns. Teguh : "Great! We’re going to insert an (1) …………………………………………………, which is a thin,
flexible tube inserted into a vein. You need one because you suffer from diarrhea and
dehydration. The IV catheter helps us to give your IV fluids and medications more easily.
It’s a quick procedure, and I’ll walk you through every step. Do you have any questions
before we start?”
Mr. Eko “No, please start.”
Ns. Teguh “All right, If at any point you feel uncomfortable, please let me know, okay?"
Mr. Eko : "Okay."
Ns. Teguh : "Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. First, I’m going to put on (2) ……………………………………. to
maintain a sterile environment. Now, I will check the expiration date of the tools we
need as packed in this (3) ……………………………… along with this (4) ………………………………..
which contains normal saline fluids. Please see and confirm their expiration date here.
Safety is really important during this procedure, Isn’t it?.”
Mr. Eko : “Yes, all is still good. Okay, so what’s next?”
Ns. Teguh : " I will connect the IV set to the IV bag and hang it in the (5) …………………………… . Perfect,
I have filled up ½ of the (6) …………………………………… with the IV fluids. Let me ensure
that there is no air in the (7) ………………………… and tighten the (8) …………………………… .
It is important to prevent air embolism; one of the IV side effects.”
Mr. Eko : “I appreciate that. What’s next?”
Ns. Teguh : "Now, would you mind placing your left arm on this (9) …………………………………., please?”
Mr. Eko : “All right.”
Ns. Teguh : “Now, I need to find a good vein for the IV insertion. I’ll place a (10) ……………………………….
around your upper arm. This will make your veins more visible by restricting blood flow
a little bit, but you might feel a slight tightness. Let me know if it's too uncomfortable."
Mr. Eko : “Okay.”
Ns. Teguh : "Perfect! I can see a good vein.” "Next, I’ll clean the area where we’ll insert the IV using
an (11) …………………………………….. . This ensures that the skin is free from bacteria."
Mr. Eko : “Okay, that makes sense. What happens next?”
Ns. Teguh : Now, I’ll be using a small cannula to insert into your vein. You’ll feel a small pinch, but
I’ll be as gentle as possible."
"All right, the cannula is in place now, I will remove the tourniquet. Then I’ll connect it
with the already prepared IV set and secure it with (12) ………………………………… and (13)
……………………………… to make sure it stays in position.”
Mr. Eko : “Ohh, that’s quick”
Ns. Teguh : "You did great! Now, I’m going to adjust the roller clamp to control the fluid flow rate.”
Mr. Eko : “So, I can also adjust the flow by rolling the clamp.”
Ns. Teguh : “Well, yeah. But, please only do so only when you see any problem with the flow. Please
also let us know in case the IV doesn’t flow well.”
Mr. Eko : “All right, I think it’s best to consult you for that.”
Ns. Teguh : “Yes, feel free to do so.”
