"And then, you see this hard tube at the edge of the tubing that goes to the needle
here? It’s an (14) …………………………….. , it allows us to administer any additional
medications you may need later on. And this (15) ……………………………………. connects
the tubing to the cannula in your arm."
Mr. Eko : “I see. It means, with these two things you mention, you don’t have to make another
injection when I need a medicine.”
Ns. Teguh : “Yes, that’s correct.”
"Alhamdulillah, everything is in place now! How do you feel after the IV placement?
Mr. Eko “Alhamdulillah, it is not that scary to get an IV insertion.
Ns. Teguh “All right, I hope that this IV will give you speedy recovery. Allahumma rabban nasi,
adzhibil ba'sa isyfi antas syafi la syafiya illa anta syifa'an la yughadiru saqaman.”
Mr. Eko : “Amen ya rabbal ‘alamin”
Ns. Teguh : “I’ll keep an eye on your IV to make sure it’s running smoothly. If you
feel any discomfort, or if you notice any redness or swelling
at the site, let me know immediately."
Mr. Eko : "Thank you for explaining everything. It wasn’t as
bad as I thought!"
Ns. Teguh : "I’m glad to hear that! If you have any other questions,
feel free to ask."
IV Side Effect
Interviewing a patient and observing IV side effects
Read the following conversation between a nurse and a patient, talking about the patient’s
condition after having IV treatment.
Ns. Yulia : “Assalamu’alaikum, good morning Mrs. Ana, I’m Ns. Yulia who’s in charge of your care
this morning. From the chart, I notice you have had two IV drips since last night. Do you
feel better now?”
Mrs. Ana : “Wa’alaikumsalam. Yeah, I’ve had two so far. But, I always feel nauseous since the first
half of my drips.”
Ns. Yulia : “Do you simply feel nauseous or do you also vomit?”
Mrs. Ana : “Yes, I’m also vomiting.”
Ns. Yulia : “And… how frequently is that?”
Mrs. Ana : “Well, I’m not sure. But, this morning alone, I have vomited two times.”
