            Phospholipids: Membrane Component

Phospholipids are the major component of the cell membrane.
Basically, a phospholipid is constructed like a triglyceride, except that a
charged phosphate group is aached to the third fay acid. The phosphate group
is usually bonded to another polar, funconal group. A phospholipid has both
hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions. The fay acid chains are hydrophobic and
exclude themselves from water, whereas the phosphate is hydrophilic and
            interacts with water.
