financial education program that moves households along a
forward-moving trajectory that begins with being banked.

2. Choose money books by key ideas.
3. Choose icebreakers and handouts that align with the money
topic.

Homeownership Strategies and Gap Financing

Training Purpose:
1. To provide an understanding of the advantages and
disadvantages of homeownership.
2. To identify the steps to buying a home.
3. To know where to find resources to mitigate the risk of
foreclosure.
By the end of the training, you will be able to:
1. Identify homebuying partners, the buying process,
financing options, mortgage criteria, and costs.
2. Explain homebuying terminology—gap financing,
amortization, balloon payment, an asset test, earnest
money, escrow, debt/income, and loan-to-value ratios.
3. Explain the home negotiation and closing process.
4. Give an example of predatory lending.
