Commentary
Policies which opened up embryonic African economies to the plundering of m’zungu
corporations whilst at the same decimating unprepared African SME.
*****
The self-interest of countries such as France, whose raison d’etre for colonisation,
was the desire to build an empire. A focus that during colonial rule was exhibited in an
enthusiasm for EurAfrique and which in post-dependence morphed into Francafrique.
And which now is widely seen as a motive for the seeming creation of a military
dependency in some of its ex-colonies.
*****
Seemingly, all m’zungu donor nations have used debt obligations to maintain a form of
dependency.
These ‘donor’ nations ‘understand’ that this causes ‘problems’ at a national level
but fail to acknowledge their part in the rolling power cuts, the frequent failures of
African governments to pay public servants and how this in turn creates fertile ground
for corruption and ghost employees/payrolls.
All of which hindered and continue to hinder economic development in Africa.
