COVID-19 Legal Implications for the Insurance Industry and Your Program
Paul White, Wilson Elser
The impact of COVID-19 on the insurance industry is unprecedented. The potential exposures arising from
this global pandemic prompt an analysis of myriad insurance risks under a variety of products for first-party
property and business interruption benefits, event cancellations, and liability claims. This presentation will
explore the emergence of COVID-19 and its short-term and long-term impact on insurance risks. Counsel
will explore the status and multi-billion dollar stakes of global litigation raising insurance coverage issues,
the specter of millions of COVID-19 liability claims filling the world’s courts, and global legislative efforts
to tackle both insurance coverage and liability issues. Finally, counsel will provide projections and an
assessment on ultimate legal resolutions regarding both insurance coverage issues and liability exposures.
