Essential Elements of the


               Mediterranean Diet



               In a nutshell, the Mayo Clinic emphasizes three major points about the
               Mediterranean Diet:


                   1.  Eating primarily plant-based foods, such as fruits and vegetables,
                   whole grains, legumes and nuts


                   2.  Replacing butter with healthy fats such as olive oil and canola oil; and


                   3.  Using herbs and spices instead of salt to flavor foods.


                   Note that the diet doesn’t require eliminating fat from your diet. Many
               trending food lifestyles like keto and paleo actually recommend fat, and this
               diet is no different. It’s overall a less restrictive diet that believes in fresh
               foods, whole grains and legumes.
