               The next day we went to the pearl factory. Mr. Mikimoto was the
        person who discovered how to insert a piece of mussel in one area in a
        \RXQJ R\VWHU VR WKDW WKH R\VWHU¶V ERG\ ZRXOG ZDOO LW R൵ E\ SURGXFLQJ D
        SHDUO DURXQG LW  7KH R\VWHUV ZHUH JURZQ LQ EDVNHWV WKDW ZHUH ÀRDWLQJ RQ
        the Inland Sea, anchored of course.

               We went by hovercraft to Hiroshima, which had been rebuilt.
        There was a huge steel factory by the pier. We took the bullet train to
        Tokyo. The train is extremely fast so that telephone poles along the right
        of way almost become a picket fence to your eyes. There are very few
        stops and the stops are of a very short duration.
               We stayed overnight in a skyscraper hotel in Tokyo. Jean and I
        WRRN DQ HOHYDWRU GRZQ WR WKH FR൵HH VKRS  ,W ZDV D ELW GLVPD\LQJ WR ¿QG
        that a simple hamburger cost over $4 – this was 1969! The next day
        when we left the hotel to go to the airport, Honey and Stan pulled a gag
        on us. They stood just outside the hotel doors and as we passed, they
        bowed very low in Japanese fashion! We had had a thoroughly enjoy-

               Jean is a great traveling companion and we both enjoy traveling.
        During the trip, we only received messages twice, once in New Delhi
        DQG RQFH LQ 7RN\R  -DQHW DQG KHU IULHQG &DUROH *UL൶WK KDG VWD\HG DW RXU

        house while we were on the trip. They were both teaching school but
        were able to care for Vicki, Cindi and Alice morning and night.

               During our trip to Saudi Arabia, we had missed seeing two for-
        mer associates, Ralph Devenney and Bill Jewell. Ralph had succeeded
        me as General Superintendent of Industrial Relations in Ras Tanura. He
        had progressed from there to becoming the Director of Industrial Rela-
        WLRQV IRU WKH FRPSDQ\  %LOO -HZHOO KDG EHHQ RQH RI P\ ¿UVW VXSHUYLVRUV LQ

        the Director of Industrial Relations to go to Beirut on alternate months
        to meet with his counterpart in Tapline. In turn, every other month the
        Tapline representative would come to meet in Saudi Arabia. Ralph and
