EFFECT OF WEIR TOWARDS TASIK CHINI

       Stagnant water

       • Stagnating water is in the process of losing dissolved oxygen and its ability to be

a life source for all surrounding it. So, it forceful migration of aquatic habitat and
other animal species as the water becomes in-conducive, because of low oxygen

           levels.

       • The stagnant water can also serve as a reservoir of these diseases that can

contaminate drinking water accidently during flooding etc.

       • Air pollution: the smell of the water is usually unbearable and can cause
discomfort for individuals with air-borne related diseases such as asthma.

       Biodiversity lost

       • The weir raised the level of the lake by at least 2m in a matter of months, causing
the death of thousands of Eugenia trees by the water’s edge, as well as the

decline of the lotus plants, which don’t typically grow in deep water. Lotus plants

roots need to touch the lake bed.

       Flooding on surrounding area

       • When rainy season comes, the Kampung area Tasik Chini experience flooding

and most times the water takes several days before it goes away because of the
weir. thereby leading to stagnant water in the environment causing an increase in

           malaria cases.
