EFFECT OF MINING ACTIVITY IN TASIK CHINI

     Heavy metal concentration in river/lake

     • Heavy metal concentration occur from the purification of metals and it will give bad impact
to the environment. The most water pollution is from mining activities. To release heavy

metals from ores, they used an acid mine because metals are very soluble in an acid

solution. After the drainage process, they disperse the acid solution in the groundwater,
containing high levels of metals. The heavy metal from iron ore operation will affect the

environment and aquatic life in lake.

     • Unwell-operated for mining activity, it will causes increasing of heavy metal

concentrations in water body because lake is a stagnant water area surrounding by land
which is term water pollution refers to any types of aquatic pollution between two

extremes of a highly productive body of water poisoned by toxic chemicals that eliminates

         living organisms.

     • Some metals, such as manganese, iron, copper, and zinc are essential micronutrients.

They are essential to life in the right concentrations, but in excess, these chemicals can
be poisonous. At the same time, chronic low exposures to heavy metals can have serious

health effects in the long run.

     • Rivers/lake are polluted with heavy metals from mining activity and some species of algae

become very tolerant to polluted conditions.
