Type of Homework/Projects/Assignments related to Maths.
Homework is assigned in class based on content covered during that lesson. Exercises may vary from
textbook questions to cement learning, research, investigation, and enquiry-based learning like the
CBA’s mentioned earlier.
Is learning Maths anything like what I did in primary school?
The mathematics curriculum at primary school aims to provide children with a language and a
system through which to analyse, describe, illustrate, and explain a wide range of experiences, make
predictions, and solve problems. Mathematics at second level seeks to enable you to solve problems,
recognise situations where Mathematics can be applied, and use appropriate technology to support
such applications. It further develops your learning from primary school.
Progression after the Junior Cycle
A good understanding of the knowledge and skills outlined above will lay the foundations for
successful engagement with senior cycle Mathematics.
Career Note
Maths is an essential component of many parts of our lives.
Studying Maths prepares you for business calculations, for
handling your money sensibly and for college courses in
science, engineering, and technology. You should see Maths as
an opportunity to strengthen your thinking and problem-solving
skills.
A minimum of a pass in Ordinary Level Maths is essential
for entry to the vast majority of courses in university and
a specific grade in Higher Level Maths is a requirement for
some university courses.
Maths is also a foundation to many of the science subjects available in
senior cycle such as Chemistry and Phys-Chem.
