Progression after the Junior Cycle
This specification through its strands and elements provides a learning experience that creates
opportunities to enhance and deepen learning at senior cycle. The learning outcomes that emphasise
students spoken competence, the role of literature in language learning, writing in a range of genres
for a variety of audiences and language and self-awareness will be very important for students
learning in senior cycle.
Career Note
There are many career possibilities for graduates who are fluent Irish speakers. Opportunities are
diverse and exist in sectors such as media, IT, marketing, sales, voluntary, community and the
arts to name but a few. You need Higher Level Irish in senior cycle to pursue Primary School
teaching, which means you need Higher Level Irish in Junior Cycle.
