Years Eve and as was typical he had to run out for to care offor her. He apologized to his wife, grabbed his coat and headed for the door. After years of this, and suspecting that something was Kishy, the wife had it up to her eyeballs and had a PI waiting to follow him.
The PI called the wife and said that her husband had brought a bottle of champagne into the “patient’s” home.
The wife got in her car and drove to where her husband was `”operating.”
When she got there and knocked on the door her doctor/husband answered in a robe with the bottle of champagne chilling and immediately began to berate her for interfering with his “work” and “not trusting him.” When he returned home he once again insisted that he had done nothing wrong.
The wife, having been successfully “gaslighted” apologized and convinced herself that she did not see what she thought she saw.
This is a typical relationship dynamic in relationships where a partner is egocentric or “narcissistic.” The narcissistic partner has little capacity for owning their behavior or admitting to wrongdoing. Their sounding cry is “deny, deny, deny,” which serves the purpose of making the conversation just too difhicult to continue. The offended partner might not want to face a future of uncertainty.
