Helen was a dedicated fruit "picker". Sour cherries remained her favorite
throughout her life. Over the years many cousins would visit on the farm in 19
summers and help with the harvest. "She was the fastest cherry picker" (Elaine
Robertson)! Helen would reward those working in the orchards giving them "...ice
cream and wafer cookies and 25 cents while watching TV at night" (Murray
Ovens). TV didn't come to Canada until Helen was in high school so the latter was
a big treat as the farm was within range of stations in Buffalo NY.
