Calgary, AB (2007-11)
Bob retired from the U of S full-time in July 2007 and was offered the opportunity 91
to do part-time work in Calgary. From 2007-11 they commuted back and forth
with Bob and Helen splitting time between Saskatoon and Calgary. There was
the opportunity to explore Calgary in depth, including going to Riders’ games at
McMahon Stadium, parking at Bob’s Foothills Hospital lot. Helen could walk to all
amenities, including Geoff and Christine’s as she never did take to driving in
Calgary – despite as noted earlier her love of highway driving. In addition to
keeping 56 Kirk Crescent they first rented an apartment in Country Hills but soon
bought their own bungalow condo in Harvest Hills.
The experience with this latter condo convinced Helen that this would be the type
of unit she wished to downsize to and in June 2015 Bob and Helen moved from
56 Kirk to 636 Heritage Lane in Saskatoon. Helen did most of the moving and
recorded 90 personal trips in the Toyota Matrix filled with boxes, etc. Movers
were only needed for the large furniture items.
During the Calgary years Helen was able to spend quality time with all three
grandsons (Nick, Josh in Calgary and Nik in Saskatoon). What an opportunity!
