Choosing Queen’s

uring our visit to Queen’s, we wandered the campus. It was a quaint, welcoming place, and while walking, we ran into
Dsomeone who left a lasting impression. A curly-headed man enthusiastically waved at us, calling out, “Johnny Card,

Johnny Card, what’s happened to you?” The man was referring to my father. My dad introduced me to him as Dr. Curly

Ettinger, a physiology professor and Dean of Medicine. That chance encounter left me with a warm impression of Queen’s.

I don’t recall every detail, but it must have felt like a friendly, inviting spot. And so, Queen’s became the obvious choice—a
decision shaped by family history, the campus atmosphere, and a bit of serendipity.
