The Family in Ayton, Ontario
n 1938, my parents, John and Jean, moved to Ayton, Ontario , where they lived and John began a rural family practice
Iout of a combined house and office. I was born in the Hanover & District Hospital on November 13, 1939. Ayton was
near Neustadt, Ontario, which is significant in local history as the birthplace of John Diefenbaker, a former Canadian Prime
Minister. My father’s office and apartment were in the same building that was destroyed in a major fire that destroyed most
of the village. My mother and father escaped the fire but lost lots of their possessions.
