y parents lived in Ayton, Ontario, during harsh winters in the snow belt. In February 1940, my mother wrote a letter
Mmentioning our isolation and the limited communication. My father, as Ayton’s sole physician, once used a snow
plane to deliver a baby during a snowstorm—a vehicle with a large propeller and skis commonly used in rural areas . A
cherished photo from this time shows little me, our dog Teddy, and my parents (photo on page 1).
